Judges are needed for a high school academic competition in the areas of speech, interview and essay judging. Judges will be trained to score with a rubric prior to the actual judging of the event. Judges will need to be dressed in business attire. All new judges are paired with experienced judges.
Interview Judges – a panel of three judges conduct a seven-minute interview with individual students asking them predetermined questions based on their resumes, their school experience, and the course of study for the current year. Judges score students using a rubric.
Time commitment: 4-6 hours
Speech Judges – a panel of three judges conduct a speech session in which each student presents a four-minute prepared speech on a topic of personal choice, and then has one minute to prepare a two-minute impromptu speech on a topic chosen from three prompts. Judges score students using a rubric.
Time commitment: 4-6 hours
Essay Judges – essay readers are assigned to read essays based on a literature of super quiz (either science or social science) prompt; the students have a 50-minute time line in which to select from four prompts and write the essays. Each essay has to have a minimum of two readings and is scored against a rubric.
