Read to Me Schools is a literacy program
that focuses on improving student’s skill
and enjoyment of reading. Volunteers work
with students in the library during
breakfast or in the classroom with
kindergarten-3rd grade students.
Reading mentors can play literary games,
read books or write stories with students depending on the school choice.
Volunteers:
• work with students in an informal or
classroom setting for one hour a week as
their schedules permit
• receive orientation on the school
location,
program expectations and working with
children in under-resourced areas
• work closely with teachers and HandsOn
Greater Phoenix staff to choose skill appropriate
reading materials and literacy activities
• times varying based on volunteer and
school schedules
Application,
fingerprinting and
orientation
required.
